Kiosk Terminals
Kiosk mode turns a Windows PC or Mac into a shared terminal, such as a hot desk or a meeting room machine. It starts straight into Remotle and nothing else, so anyone in your organisation can walk up, sign in with their own work account and reach their workstation.
What happens to the computer
Section titled “What happens to the computer”- A standard Windows or Mac account called ComputleKiosk is created. It has a random password nobody sees and signs in automatically at start-up.
- Remotle opens full screen on a black background, without window controls. The desktop, browser, Settings and file access are locked down for that account.
- Shut down, Restart and Sign out sit in the top corner and ask for confirmation. Sign out signs the person out of Remotle, ready for the next person.
- The terminal shows its own network details, such as IP address and MAC address, from the info button.
- Other accounts on the computer are not changed. Nothing is set up until a terminal is enrolled.
Enrol a terminal
Section titled “Enrol a terminal”-
On the computer, open Remotle and go to Settings, Kiosk, Set up as kiosk terminal.
Remotle shows an 8-character code. The code never contains O, 0, I or 1.
-
In the portal, open Client settings, Kiosk.
-
Enter the code under Pairing code, and a name such as Reception.
-
Click Enrol terminal.
The computer sets itself up and restarts into kiosk mode.
Sign-in methods
Section titled “Sign-in methods”Under Kiosk sign-in, choose which sign-in methods terminals offer:
- Microsoft sign-in: sign in with a Microsoft work account.
- Email sign-in: sign in with a link sent to the person’s email address.
If your Microsoft sign-in passes through another identity provider, add its address under Extra sign-in sites (up to 10).
Terminals pick up changes at their next check-in, within a minute.
Maintenance
Section titled “Maintenance”- On the terminal, press Ctrl+Shift+K (Command+Shift+K on a Mac).
- Enter the terminal’s maintenance password, shown in the portal under Client settings, Kiosk.
The terminal opens Terminal settings, where you can change display, network, sound, date and time, power, keyboard, proxy, Bluetooth and update settings, or choose Sign out for maintenance to use the normal login screen. The terminal returns to kiosk mode when the administrator signs out, or at the next restart.
Terminal settings lock again after 10 minutes.
Remove a terminal
Section titled “Remove a terminal”In Client settings, Kiosk, click Remove on the terminal. This takes it out of kiosk mode for good: it deletes the ComputleKiosk account and turns off automatic sign-in.
