Installing the Host

This guide is for the person who installs the Remotle host on a workstation. You need administrator access to the workstation.

Computle supplies two installers for the same build:

File Use
ComputleRemotleHost-<version>-Setup.exe Installing by hand, or silently with /quiet
ComputleRemotleHost-<version>.msi Intune, Configuration Manager or a script
  1. Check the requirements.

    See Host Requirements.

  2. Run the setup program as an administrator.

Read the agreement and click Install.

  3. Click Finish.

If setup says “Restart this computer to finish.”, restart the workstation.

  4. Enrol the host.

Silent install

ComputleRemotleHost-<version>-Setup.exe /quiet
msiexec /i ComputleRemotleHost-<version>.msi /qn

Setup.exe switches

Switch Action
/quiet Install without a window. Running it again on the same version repairs the install.
/uninstall Remove the host.

The setup log is written to %TEMP%\ComputleRemotleHost-<version>-setup.log.

Install details

Item Value
Scope Per machine
Install folder C:\Program Files\Computle\Remotle\
Data folder C:\ProgramData\Computle\
Services See The Remotle Host
Drivers Computle Virtual Display Adapter, Computle Virtual HID Mouse, Computle Virtual Audio, Computle USB VHCI

A newer installer upgrades an older one. Installing an older version over a newer one is refused.

Uninstall

Remove Computle (Remotle) Host from Settings, Apps, or run the setup program with /uninstall. Uninstalling removes the services, drivers, host settings and host logs.

Computle supplies two packages for each build. Install both together.

Package Contents
computle-enrolment The host’s identity with Computle
computle-host The host
  1. Check the requirements.

    See Host Requirements.

  2. Add the kernel module packages the host needs.

Ubuntu linux-modules-extra-$(uname -r). Cloud and minimal images do not include it. v4l2loopback-dkms (universe)
Debian In the standard kernel v4l2loopback-dkms
Rocky, RHEL, Alma 8 and 9 kmod-usbip from ELRepo kmod-v4l2loopback from ELRepo
Rocky, RHEL, Alma 10 kmod-usbip from ELRepo kmod-v4l2loopback from RPM Fusion (free)
    SUSE Linux Enterprise kernel-default-extra v4l2loopback-kmp-default

The package install reports any module it cannot load and names the package that provides it.

  3. Install the packages.

    Ubuntu and Debian:

    sudo apt-get install -y ./computle-enrolment_*.deb ./computle-host_*.deb

    Rocky Linux, RHEL and AlmaLinux:

    sudo dnf -y install ./computle-enrolment-*.el8.*.rpm ./computle-host-*.el8.*.rpm

    SUSE Linux Enterprise:

    sudo zypper -n install --allow-unsigned-rpm ./computle-enrolment-*.suse15.*.rpm ./computle-host-*.suse15.*.rpm

For a silent install on Ubuntu and Debian, set DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive.

  4. Sign out and sign in again.

The session agent starts with the next GNOME session, the login screen included.

  5. Enrol the host.
